In a few weeks, it’ll be 20 years since I first got involved in Phoenix FM. A few meetings, some enthusing about how I wanted to help people discover new music in the same way the late night Radio 1 DJs had helped me discover whole new worlds – and this summer, the show that spawned from that first meeting, Curveballs, will reach its 1000th episode, with over 300 performer guests welcomed into the studio since the first live episode in March 2007, just after the station’s full-time launch.

Add to that – for the second year in a row, my little 8pm-on-a-Wednesday slot has been nominated for a Panic Award. And if you have a spare 60 seconds, it would mean the world if you could drop Curveballs a vote in the Best Radio Show category via the link below:

Voting closes in the morning of June 24th with the results announced at Chelmsford’s HotBox venue that evening, and you can vote in as many (or few) categories as you wish.

The Panic Awards is a brilliant event honouring local music and arts in Essex. Two acts we’ve recently interviewed on Curveballs – Myopia and Lady Grey & The Earls – have been nominated in the best band category, and speaking of Lady Grey, she and one of the Earls have been nominated as part of their theatre company Early Doors in several categories for their play ‘Lighthouse’. I’m also joined in the radio show category by Phoenix FM comrade Spencer Carter for his Saturday afternoon show, The Weekend Wind-Up.
